| The Customer The Research Center Ocean Margins (RCOM) at the University Bremen dedicates its work to the geoscientific analysis of ocean margins - the boundaries between the continents and the oceans. Involved in this project are the Department of Geoscience, the Center for Marine Environmental Studies (MARUM), the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine research, the Max Planck Institute of Marine Microbiology, the Center for Marine Ecology of the Tropics, and the Senckenberg Research Station. RCOM participates internationally in the ’premiership‘ of marine and climate research. The Task RCOM was founded on July 7, 2001. In order to meet international standards, a representational internet presence had to be created within a short period of time. Working in cooperation with MARUM, four internet sites were designed and processed with additor. The Informationsgesellschaft made design contributions to three them:
The Evaluation In the course of the two months’ planning and design phase, 62 editing systems were tested for their practical functionality, five of these systems were short-listed. A small working group of scientists, public relation workers, and IT specialists evaluated the capacity of the systems on the basis of detailed performance specifications. Emphasis was placed on user-friendliness and effective workflow. additor was able to survive against its competitors, whereby the attractive license model played a crucial part, next to having fulfilled the mentioned requirements. The Customer’s Judgment "By using additor we are able to manage several internet appearances with only little personnel costs. Simultaneously, internal procedures were distinctively optimized, which resulted in the updated status of the web pages released. I consider it to be a great improvement that each scientist has now the possibility to become an online editor without much effort.“ Thorsten Klein, responsible for IT at MARUM
